Preventing the death of the Birifor language in Burkina Faso
INECSO (Initiative pour l’Eco citoyenneté dans le Sud-Ouest) will engage governmental and local partners to promote the Birifor language as a key means of identity and solidarity among the Birifor people in Burkina Faso. With the help of the PKF grant, INECSO will produce crucial written documents (dictionary, basic arithmetics, simple grammar), train and recruit trainers in the Birifor language and promote the setting up of a national Birifor Language Commission. INECSO will also engage in basic Birifor literacy activities and initiative to support the practical use of the language (newspaper in Birifor, competition for literature in Birifor, production of specific texts, etc.). The Birifor should not die!

Thanks guys for this great initiative. Guess you will be in touch with Pastor Joel Dah and the new committee (Commission) to promote Birifor language and culture. My interest began back in1960 when I began to live among this people group and learn their as yet unwritten language. TheBible Society now responsible for translation of the Birifor Bible. Do you get copies of the quarterly journal “The Trumpet”?
