Promoting indigenous peoples’ action at the grassroots (Philippines)

NATRIPAL is the Federation of United Tribes of Palawan and has been working to promote action at the grassroots, e.g. supporting indigenous peoples in developing their own analyses, agendas, plans, advocacy and action including against destructive mining and monocultures.  The PKF grant will help them expand activities in barangays Punang and Iraray and in barangay Dumaguena, all in the island of Palawan.  Local plans will interface with the programs of the federation at provincial level.  Awareness campaigns will deal with environmental concerns versus mining and agrofuels and the values embedded in Palawan’s pristine forests.  Indigenous leaders and elders will promote community solidarity through the respect of customary rights and the protection of nature.
