Tools to end destructive mining in the Philippines
The Working Group on Mining in the Philippines, based in the UK, is engaged with several Philippine partners to transform the way mining is practiced in the Philippines – ending its divisive and destructive impacts on human rights, community well-being and the environment. In collaboration with local organizations and with the help of a PKF grant, the group is producing a number of urgent and crucial tools to be used in national advocacy, including in current Senate hearings. The tools include four targeted regional maps (prospective mining versus current land uses, watersheds, forestry, agriculture, and delimitations of the ancestral domains of local indigenous peoples) and a published report entitled “Philippines: Mining versus Food?”.
